¡NO QUEREMOS MAS FARC! DÉJENOS EN PAZ!
I'm English but I love Colombian food. My friend's colombian (from Bogata) and her mum does the best colombian cooking. There are these little cakes she makes, a bit like mini pancakes - thats the only way I can describe them! And they taste a bit like potato, and I think they have cheese in too. I know she griddles them too. Does anyone know what they are and how I can make them. Also appreciate any other Colombian recipes too :D
if you ask me, that's NOTHING for a company like chiquita, and NOTHING compared to all the harm they caused by "finacially supporting" a terrorist group, even if they were "pressured" to do so, it's still a crime here, and all that money allows them to keep terrorizing comunities and killing and kidnapping people here.

My cousin was ordained the Bishop of Libano-Honda in early february; I went to Colombia with family to see the ceremony and to visit. I was there for about four days; arriving in Bogota thursday evening, touristing in Bogota friday daytime, flying to Manizales friday afternoon, and visiting with family. The ceremony itself was saturday mid-day; afterwards, my girlfriend and I spent a little time wandering central Manizales. We flew back to Bogota sunday morning, and went to see a bullfight in Bogota sunday afternoon. We flew back to the US monday morning.
I took over 600 pictures while I was there; about half are decent. I've posted them (look in the tribe "listings" for the links).

I'm an Australian who was fortunate enough to visit Colombia last year. I travelled from Sydney to San Francisco then to Colombia via El Salvador and Costa Rica, having no Spanish language skills. But it was certainly an adventure!! I stayed in Bogota and travelled to Barranquilla and Cartegena, both of which were beautiful.

To see the Andes was a truly spiritual experience and those lucky enough to live in Bogota get to experience this beauty every day.

Hi, I'm new here. I'd like to leave for your consideration (as you can see, I was born in Colombia) this new topic, finding the most beautiful city in our country, so that anyone who want to go an visit aour country have already gotten an idea about the places he or she might visit. so what do you say??

Let´s start with Barranquilla.
I'm from that beautiful land of palms and sand, in our Atlantic Coast. Also called 'la arenosa' and 'la puerta de oro de Colombia' B/quilla is, for many people, 'el mejor vividero del mundo!'. I hope that you will forgive my so-marked, subjective point of view.

It's near Santa Marta (< 2hours) and Cartagena (2 hours), two of our world known, most touristic cities; and a little bit more distant from our capital, Bogota ( 16 hours by car, 45 minutes by plane). Its people, called 'costeños' for some ('cachacos'), are very easygoing, peaceful, funny and spontenous. It has beautiful women, as in all over our country.

Barranquilla has many of things for you to know and many places to visit.

It has a famous
-'Carnaval',
now a patrimony of mankind according to UNESCO. This 'carnaval' is a tradition that is more than 50 years old, where many people in disguises, wearing masks, dancing along with the drum's beating, takes the whole city into a 'rumba' state.

Its main events are 'la Batalla de flores' on saturday, 'la Gran Parada' on sunday and 'el Festival de Orquestas' on omnday and tuesday. These days, while the sun is up dancers of all ages takes a long jouney through the 'via 40' street, also called 'el rumbiodromo' dancing with no paused, in a mixed of color and happiness in the enviroment; while at nigths, the most important music singers perform a show that last until the next day in the morning, to start all over again. It last oficially 4 days, since friday to tuesday. 4 days of music and festivity. 'Carnaval' is for 'Barranquilleros' the most important and expected event during the year. We count the days for it to begin. Usually it starts the last of february or the beggining of march.

While in B/quilla you can go to several places to enjoy a terrific eveninig. If you enjoy partying, specially on weekends you could go to
- 'la 84' or 'la 79' streets,
where you could find places where you could dance and drink beer, 'ron', aguardiente' or 'whiskey' until you´re done (actually, at 3 o'clock in the morning these places stops their activities, by official command). Also, at only 25 minutes by car, we have
-beaches,
not as beautiful as cartagena's or santa marta's, of course, but where you could have a good time. You could go there at almost any time, during the day or at nights, where the ocean's breeze makes you forget about those +30 C degrees of the day. Ask for -'Klimandiaro' or 'Punta roca' beaches,
and you will know what I'm talking about.

You could stay at some fancy hotels if you have enough money ($85 US), like -
-the Prado Hotel,
-'Puerta de Oro'
-'Barranquilla Plaza'

That's it for today. There is so much to say about B/quilla that I could write an enciclopedy out of it, but I will stop now.

By far, Colombia's most beautiful city, my beloved and always remeber B/quilla.

I'd like to check out some of these beautiful beaches I keep hearing about in Colombia. Anyone with firsthand knowledge want to share with me the best places to go? In other words, safest, economical, outdoor activities available, nightlife, etc...
